Salveo Family Medicine Clinic

"We are proud to be a designated community teaching practice for The University of Calgary Department of Family Medicine!"

What is a Resident?

  • A doctor who has finished medical school and is specializing in their chosen field of medicine.
  • Most of the residents in this clinic have chosen to specialize in Family Medicine
  • Residents train under the supervision of licensed doctors for two additional years before they can practice Family Medicine independently
  • Residents often work independently ordering tests, writing prescriptions, and manage many medical problems on their own.
  •

What does this mean for you?

  • Your physician may have residents under his/her supervision
  • The nurse will inform you of any learners when you are brought to the exam room
  • Participation in your health care is a crucial step in training our future family physicians
  • The resident will ALWAYS review your condition and treatment plan with your doctor, and may ask you to briefly wait while this is done.
  • Ask your doctor if you have any questions or concerns about your doctors-in-training
  • We hope that you will be open to having them be involved with your care as they will often bring new knowledge and bright ideas.
  •

Our students challenge us to continue to learn and improve ourselves throughout our careers!
